That’s right. Today is my 39th birthday. One more year before I hit that next milestone and head “over the hill.”

I quit having birthdays 9 years ago. Not because my age bothers me… I am just not one for being the center of attention. Probably why I hide behind this monitor every day to talk to you through “Social” Media. Ha!

Anyway, that is not all there is about me you may not know. Just like any woman, I am one complex piece of work. Truly. Ask Colby, I am sure he would agree.

39 Years Old

Life:

  1. I was born in Dallas, Texas. Been here my entire life. May never leave.
  2. I am the oldest of 3. My brother and sister are both taller than me but I still have the pleasure of being the oldest… and smartest. Ha!
  3. I lived in the same house for 14 years growing up. Our house was haunted. Not even kidding. I hated living in that house. It has since been turned into a Psychic’s Office. Hmmm… wonder why.
  4. I am part Mexican, part American Indian, part Irish, Aztec Indian… mutt. And proud of it.
  5. I only attended 2 years of college. Colby and I wanted to get married and I was already paying my own way through college. The wedding took all we had saved. And 3 months after we were married I got pregnant with Chey. She was born 4 days after our 1st anniversary. I was a Pre-Med major. Once I got pregnant I wanted nothing more but to be a mom. It is all I can see myself ever being. No regrets.
  6. I was married in a huge wedding gown.. and wore white Justin Lacers under my dress. My bridesmaids wore saloon hall dresses and Colby and the guys wore Wranglers, Justin ropers, and tux coats with tails. We even had the armadillo groom’s cake like you see in Steel Magnolias… and every bit as bad, if not worse. It was “gifted” to us so we agreed to it.
  7. Being country when country wasn’t cool was not always easy. I have worn boots and jeans since I was 6 years old.
  8. Besides being a doctor, I always wanted to be a NASCAR driver. The idea of racing around the speedway in a fast car was an incredible dream of mine. Colby said no… so I had to move on from that dream. Boo.
  9. The excitement of walking The 3-Day in November is overwhelming at times. Colby and I have never done anything like it. But, the idea of aiding in such an important cause means more than blisters, exhaustion, and 60 days of walking. It is going to be amazing!
  10. I miss the baby we lost to miscarriage… almost daily. Reagan would have been 5 in a few weeks. But, again, no regrets. We have our crazy little toddler that challenges us daily and I could not love more. She will be 4 in 2 weeks.
  11. Poetry got me through high school. It was therapeutic. I still have most of them in the same unicorn folder I had from the 80’s.
  12. My sister wanted to be a model/spokesperson. I wanted to be a doctor. She is in the medical field. I have been on TV and work to promote brands. I am often amused at how that turned out.

Relationships:

  1. I was desperate for “love” when I was younger and dated 21 guys before I met Colby in high school. He was the one. I knew it from the very first kiss. I truly believe God made him specifically for me. So many reasons why I believe this true. Mostly because no one else could handle me like he does.
  2. Although I was introduced to Jesus at a young age as a “church bus kid,” I began a relationship with Him in July of 2000. This relationship is the only one I put above our marriage… otherwise our marriage would fall apart.
  3. There is nothing in the world that teaches me about loving another person the way having children has. Not like the love I have for Colby. It’s different.
  4. I have always got along better with guys than girls. Still do. I am not very girly in any fashion of the word. Conversation is easier for me with the male gender. Girls often intimidate me.
  5. I live within 5 minutes of my parents. Pretty much always have. They are the reason I could never leave Dallas. Family is of utmost importance to me. And, yes, my parents have been married for 40 years.
  6. Speaking of, Chey pointed out to me one day that she was a “4th generation” high school sweetheart. My maternal grandparents were married when my grandmother was a teenager. They stayed married until my MawMaw passed away from lung cancer. My mom and dad married when she was 17. No, she was not pregnant. He asked. She said, “Yes.” I came 1 year and (almost exactly) 5 months later. You know our story from above. And then Chey and her boyfriend, Nic, have been together for over 3 ½ years. The plan is there will be a wedding in another 5 years or so.
  7. Playing softball for 8 years gave me a sense of belonging. I played catcher because it was the position Pudge Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers played… and he was my favorite (still is). My last game was when I was 3 months pregnant with our 7 year old daughter. I was hit in the head by a foul ball while behind the plate catching and knocked out for a bit. Colby put his foot down and told me I was done.
  8. Friendships are incredibly hard for me. I cannot handle high maintenance relationships. Colby is my best friend. Other than him, I only have a handful of people I can truly call “friend.” Those people know how I am and choose to remain my friend.

Favorites:

  1. Mexican food is my absolute favorite. Enchiladas are my #1 favorite food to be exact.
  2. If you follow me on any of social media accounts, you may have seen my #ConverseChronicles. I LOVE Converse. I wear them pretty much anywhere. I currently only own 6 pairs but am working on more. My girls have also started their own collections! Like mother, like daughter!
  3. I am close-minded when it comes to music. I only listen to two kinds and do not stray from them. Country and Contemporary Christian.
  4. I love to read. When I was a child, I always had a book in my hand. One day, I would love to actually write my own. Some day.
  5. When I was in high school, my walls were covered from top to bottom with pictures of cars. Old cars. Custom trucks. And pictures of Garth Brooks. I shared a room with my sister and she hated it. I felt like they kept me sane.
  6. Cars are still a passion for me. Writing car reviews is the coolest thing in the world for me. I love the adrenaline rush I get each time a new one arrives. The technology, smell, and ride of a new car is almost too much for me sometimes. I literally thought I was going to lose my mind driving the Mustang GT. My kids thought I was crazy because I was so excited behind the wheel.
  7. This blog is my favorite outlet. I searched for years for a way to work from home… and finally found it. I am self-taught with Photoshop, HTML, CSS and anything else I need to get through. I like to do everything myself and am cheap. I designed my blog, as well as Colby’s and our daughter’s.
  8. Norway has become an obsession of mine. I have HUGE plans to get there before my 40th birthday to see the Northern Lights. I have one year to make that happen!

Random Tidbits:

  1. Mouth sounds are my biggest pet peeve? Ugh. I cannot stand them. Smacking. Chewing. Crunching. Colby and the kids have learned to eat quietly. Plus we have music playing in the background as we eat together.
  2. I am an introvert. Hard to believe for those that have only experienced me through my life as a blogger. I like to be at home. I tend to pull away from large groups. I do not like all eyes on me. I enjoy being behind-the-scenes.
  3. I have never had a nickname. No idea why.
  4. Before blogging, I had only ever flown one time in my life. Now, I feel like a pro after several press trips. I got this now. Although I would LOVE to fly with someone I know! All but one of these trips have been by myself. I have never even flown with Colby!
  5. I am addicted to technology. As much as I can try to avoid it… it is the truth. I blame my work and the fact that I have a lot of friends that live inside my computer and phone.
  6. My 1st press trip was with Honda 3 years ago and I was scared to death! I actually missed one of my daughter’s birthdays. I cried a lot. In fact, I just stopped crying 2 trips ago. I still get emotional while away from my family, but I am able to focus more on the task at hand. My kids do not even escort me to the airport anymore. They let Colby take me and just drop me off. Humph.
  7. I cannot dance. At all.
  8. I don’t drink. Tried it when Colby and I were separated but didn’t really like it.
  9. My best thoughts come in the shower. It’s the only place where I feel like I can just be quiet… and listen. Any time we have a big decision to make, Colby tells me to go take a shower to see what God tells me. I also get the inspiration for most of my blog posts while washing my hair.
  10. Talking on the phone is my last resort when it comes to communication. I detest it. I like to think through my thoughts before just putting them out there. Phone calls do not allow that type of liberty.
  11. Colby and I only pay with cash. No credit cards. Except our truck. We needed a reliable vehicle and did not have the cash to buy anything good enough. It was financed. Ugh.
  12. I am a checker. Well, that’s what Colby calls it. I am constantly checking and rechecking… everything. Some may call that OCD. Colby calls it “checking.” It has saved us several times thank you very much!

Ok… there you have it. 39, probably most un-fascinating, about me. Just me. Plain and simple.

What is one thing about you most people may not know?
