NASCAR Vocabulary
If you ask Jaci, our 9 year old fashionista, what her favorite trip is to date, she will tell you North Carolina. I can’t say as though I am completely surprised, other than the fact that she is the girliest of our bunch. I mean, she took to the concept of NASCAR much better than I thought she would. I couldn’t be prouder.
NASCAR Vocabulary
One reason we specifically chose to take our three youngest girls to Concord was to attend the Coca-Cola 600. We wanted them to get the full NASCAR experience in order to understand why Colby and I love the sport. We were unsure exactly what the girls would think, but they ended up loving it. And, well, they actually learned a thing or two!
As we sat down to watch the Pole Race, I had to explain to them exactly what it meant to be the “pole sitter.” We then began to discuss some of the other NASCAR vocabulary and realized that there are 4 “P’s” that sort of set the basics for the racing world.
1. Pole Sitter –
2. Pit Road –
3. Pace Car –
4. Purse –
Once we established what each of these “P” words meant, it made the race make more sense to them. We knew how the leader was chosen. What the cars were doing when they pulled in to pit. The purpose of the car leading them around before the race. And, finally, why they were even racing as far as prizing was concerned.
I loved their enthusiasm towards learning more about the sport that their dad and I are both passionate about. Fast cars, loud engines, burning rubber and screeching tires are not just for boys, Y’all. NASCAR is just as much about the girls and they are eager to follow along as well.
